Sex and Lucia: Not the Typical Sex Film

The story of Sex and Lucia, aside from the title itself that speaks of the movie, is about how things are connected. It is actually from the point of view and the life of Lucia which somehow has a connection to other people when she stalked and proposed to have an intimate relationship with a fictional book writer Lorenzo. But the unfolding of the truth started when they broke-up. There have been several revelations about Lorenzo that tells the connection of everyone.
On the other hand, there are a lot of symbolisms that was emphasized to deliver the point of the story. But the leit-motif was the moon, sun and the opening of the window, sea and the abundant nudity and sex.
Luna. It was the name of the child Lorenzo come to know as his daughter to Elena whom he happened to have a one night stand. Dizzy? Imagine how difficult it is for me to explain these. Anyways, the Luna I am referring to is the moon. A contrast to Luna, innocent and young, the moon was old and the only witness to everything that have had happened most of the night.
Also, there were these scenes wherein Lucia opened or looked at the window and saw the sun shining brightly. There was a part where she closed the window after seeing the sun but for most of it she smiled. Somehow, for me, it shows how welcoming she is to anything that might happen.
Now imagine the wideness of the sea. Every time you look at it you’ll remember how big the world is. But we always hear “it’s a small world after all”. Just as I said a while ago, the movie depicts how things are connected. Every character was connected.
From our lesson, it was stated that sex, along with music, is the savior of the borderline case of the movie. But the movie told us that sex, not pornographic but sensual, is a “part of the story, not a separated story nor the whole story” (quoted from efilcritic.com).
The movie was good. Yes, I admit it has a good sex. But evaluating it, the story, the message, the symbolism, everything coincided. The story, Elena said in the movie, has an advantage. When you think you are trapped, there is a way out, so that you end up at the beginning again, before tragedy could strike. The film itself opens up at the end to bring you back to the beginning, sadder but wiser. Thumbs up!
