The Sins of Father Amora speaks of moral values that are mostly encounter in the name of religion. They are faith, lust and religion.
A year ago, at Lady of Manaoag Church in Pangasinan, I saw a man dropping coins in a donation box. He pause for a while when I child inserted a 500-peso-bill and continue. Later then I realized that he was actually getting all the dropped coins in a mineral bottle. A mineral bottle that was maybe halfway or fully full.
With these, I questioned the faith. How do we measure faith? How to we practice faith? How do we express out faith?
If we based it from the story of Father Amora, faith was dependable to the character. But evaluating it, they all have the misconception of faith. They have a weak and shakable foundation of faith. They have that kind of faith that can never be use to protect them from all kinds of sin, especially lust.
Lust. When you look at the person and you lust at her, you commit sin. When you commit adultery, a lust towards outside your marriage, you commit sin. One of the seven deadly sins- lust.
Yes, lust is visible in the movie.
The movie speaks of lust.
The movie was dominated by lust.
Furthermore, religion is a way of life. It is what you believe. You live with it. You are living it. You base your principle on it. Your moral standings and opinion to any issues is your religion.
Catholicism was not the religion in the film. It was all based from fallacy, personalized principles and personalized god. Righteousness was self proclaimed and self evaluated from a false conscience.
How could a loving God send sinners to hell? He doesn’t. They volunteer.
