War: Never a Solution (Baler)

A lot of battles happened in the world. World War I, II and III, USA against Iraq and Afghanistan and North against South Korea are few examples of protecting and fighting for their country. But if we look further into war, the people who are involved, either of the opposing sides are greatly affected and do not cause any good at all except patriotism.

The movie Baler, Pearl Harbor and all other war movies depicts the lives of people holding the weapon, civilians or perhaps the point of view of children, only shows struggle and pain.

During war, bullets, as weapon and protection, vastly multiplies and is abundant giving fewer shares for food, emotional support and understanding not just from opponents but from allies. The weakest specie dies and the strongest survives. The concept of matira ang matibay is practiced. And the stronger opponent swallows the weak, overpowering and overcoming them. The strong one is the winner and looks at the loser like the most useless and smallest specie that has ever evolved.

And during and after war, there is famine, so much longing for those people physically and/or literally left their loved ones and, even those people holding the weapon wishes the war to end as soon as possible. War creates scar and anger. And never has it given peace and contentment even for the “winning team.”

Millions or even billions of money have been spent to sustain weapons just to win the battle. Thousands of lives had have been risked and lost just to protect their country, their pride.

They say patriotism is one’s willingness to give even their lives for their country. Only fool would believe that. For patriotism is the longing for peaceful service for their country. Too bad, only few realizes the latter and fool as they are settle everything thru war that has never been a solution.
